What we do
Tree surgery & hedge services
From a single overgrown conifer to a full site clearance, every job is quoted honestly and carried out by climbers who know what a tree can take.

Crown reductions, thinning, crown lifting and deadwooding — cutting to the right points so the tree stays healthy and your light comes back.

Straight fells where there is room, sectional dismantling where there is not. Dead, dangerous or simply outgrown its garden — taken down safely.

Ground out below soil level so you can turf, pave or plant over it — no digging, no root-plate left behind, no regrowth.

Conifer, laurel, beech and privet cut back to a clean line and levelled off — from a front boundary to several hundred metres of estate hedging.

Emergency & Storm Damage
Trees on roofs, blocked drives and hung-up limbs. Ring us and we will tell you honestly how quickly we can get to you — day or night.

Why TB Tree Care
A local tree surgeon who treats your garden like his own
TB Tree Care was built from the ground up by Tom, who set it up in 2023 and still runs every job from Shirebrook across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. No shortcuts, no overnight success — just consistent, careful work. Most of our jobs still come from a neighbour of the last one, which is exactly how we want it.
You get the same person on the phone, on site and at the end of the job. No call centre, no subcontractor turning up in an unmarked van, and no price that changes once the chainsaws are out. Meet Tom and the team.
Priced properly, once
We look at the tree, the access and where the waste is going, then give you a fixed price in writing. It does not move.
Qualified and insured
NPTC-certified climbers, full public liability cover, and the right kit for the tree — including work on protected and TPO trees.
Cleared before we leave
Brash is chipped on site, timber is cut to manageable lengths, and the drive gets swept. Want the logs for firewood? Just say.
We turn up when we say
A booked date is a booked date. If the weather makes a job unsafe we will ring you, not leave you waiting in.

How it works
How a tree surgery job works — first call to swept driveway
No surveys to book weeks out and no sales visit. Four steps, and most jobs are done inside a fortnight.
Tell us about the tree
Call, or send the form with a photo and your postcode. A photo answers most of our questions straight away.
Free look and fixed price
We come out, check access and condition, and put a fixed price in writing — free, with nothing to sign.
Booked in around you
Pick a date that suits. If the tree is protected or in a conservation area, we handle the council paperwork.
Done and cleared away
The work gets done, the waste goes with us, and the site is swept before we pull off the drive.

Not sure if the tree has to come down?
Plenty of the trees people ring us about do not need felling. A reduction or a thin often buys another ten years, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a fell — including when the honest answer is "leave it until autumn".
Quotes are free, in writing, and yours to sit on for as long as you like.
Customer feedback
Tree surgery reviews, in our customers’ own words
Thank you Tom for giving my tree a much needed hair cut. It's not been trimmed in years and now it's a lot more under control. Thank you xx
Rachael G.
Contacted TB Tree Care and after sending Tom some photos, was given a very fair quote for hedge stump removal. Arrived when he said and with his team did a great job. Got the work done quickly, friendly and helpful, and left everything really tidy. Would definitely call again. Thank you.
Jane M.
Fantastic service from quote to completion. Honest, helpful advice. Extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of tree care with a great understanding of customer needs and expectations. They took great care around the other areas of the garden and cleared all debris away. A great job done at a truly fair price. Would highly recommend.
Maria B.
Asked Tom for a quote to chop down 2 very large trees. Quote very reasonable. They arrived promptly and worked all day and cleaned up after they'd finished. Would highly recommend this company — Tom and the lads did a brilliant job.
Dawn C.
Tom and his team have done excellent work each time I have needed my trees trimmed or my garden relaid with new stones. The work has been carried out exactly as required to a high standard, with advice given when needed. The quotes have always been very reasonable and competitive. I have had no hesitation in using Tom on numerous occasions and would highly recommend.

Common questions
Tree surgery questions, answered
How much does a tree surgeon cost?
It depends on the tree, not a price list. Height, species and condition matter, but so does access — a beech at the bottom of a garden with no side gate takes far longer than the same tree beside a driveway. Waste is the other big factor: chipping on site is cheaper than carting everything away. We quote free, in writing, after looking at the job, and the price does not change afterwards.
Do I need permission to cut down a tree?
Sometimes. If the tree carries a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) you need written consent from the council before any work, and doing it without can mean a substantial fine. If it stands in a conservation area you must give the council six weeks' notice. We check both before quoting and submit the application for you at no extra cost. Our plain-English guide to Tree Preservation Orders explains what to look for.
Do you take all the waste away?
Yes, clearance is included in the price unless you ask otherwise. Brash is chipped on site, timber is cut into manageable lengths and taken with us, and the area is raked and swept before we leave. Plenty of customers ask us to leave the logs stacked for firewood — that is fine, just mention it when we quote.
How quickly can you get out to storm damage?
We run a 24/7 call-out for anything unsafe — a tree on a roof or car, a limb over a road, a trunk split after high winds. Ring 07949 268926 rather than using the form, and we will tell you honestly how soon we can be there. If the tree is touching power lines, call the network operator on 105 first: that is their job, not ours.
Are you insured?
Yes — TB Tree Care carries full public liability insurance for domestic and commercial work, and our climbers hold NPTC certification for chainsaw use, aerial cutting and aerial rescue. We are happy to send the certificates over before you book, and site managers can have method statements and risk assessments with the quote.
When is the best time of year to cut a hedge?
Late summer through winter is the safe window. Between March and August, nesting birds are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, so a hedge has to be checked for active nests first and left alone if one is found. Most deciduous trees are best pruned in the dormant season; cherries, plums and other stone fruit are the exception and are pruned in summer to avoid silver leaf.
Which areas do you cover?
We work across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire from our base in Shirebrook — including Mansfield, Nottingham, Chesterfield, Bassetlaw (Worksop and Retford), Newark and Amber Valley (Belper, Ripley and Alfreton). If you are just outside, ring anyway — we often are too.
